BEWELL
Frontiers of Learning & Leadership
Over the last two decades, advancements and discoveries in the field of learning science and neuroscience have radically reshaped what we know about the mind and human development. Alongside theoretical and empirical findings, fMRI studies point to new directions for designing learning in schools, workplaces and communities, and for transforming lives.
So what exactly did we learn? One of the most revolutionary conclusions is that our mind is far more emotional and social than was ever imagined; that is to say, experience and feeling shape thinking (and vice versa). In fact, they are intertwined and irreducible processes, with no determinable beginning or end. Building caring and connected families, schools and workplaces is an important implication of these findings, one we cannot leave to change or "for later'.
Contemporary views of motivation, performance and knowledge are evolving to reflect the primacy of emotions and social relationships in our problem solving, creativity and decision making abilities, and in our overall mental and physical health.
Traditional models of education, community development and mainstream talent practices at work have yet to catch up. Closing the gap between research and practice is where BeWell comes in, offering a portfolio of programs, services and partnerships to promote lifelong learning and well-being.
BeWell Baby
Music, Movement & Connection
BeWell Baby is a non-profit organization that supports families with children ages 0-3, a critical time for brain development, through low-cost classes and free events.
Infancy and toddlerhood is a time of wonder, discovery and deep connection. Our 8-week music and movement classes teach five daily practices for working out the muscles of the mind and the body. Developed at Harvard University by Dr. Delgado's advisor, The Basics, as they're called, are fun and simple ways to help every child grow to be happy and healthy.
Positive Discipline
Our workshops teach practical tools for setting limits, creating routines, managing challenging behavior and minimizing family stress.
Our positive discipline workshops equip parents and caregivers with knowledge of how the sensing, feeling and thinking mind link up to patterns of behavior, and then teach strategies to shift those patterns in ourselves and enable prosocial skill development in our children.
Participants will develop a combination of mindfulness practices, positive discipline techniques, and emotion coaching strategies that grow with their child.
DR. LORA DELGADO
About The Founder
Lora Delgado, Ed.D-CPTD has seventeen years of professional experience working in learning and human development. She is an educational leader, professor, and curriculum and instructional designer.
Lora's interest in well-being began in college when she was trained as a peer health educator. Her passion for the arts, music and movement began even earlier as a child, and combined with her bent for teaching, she found her way to elementary, enrichment, special and early childhood education after graduation. She taught at public and charter schools in New York City before moving to Austin in 2012, where she worked for Austin Independent School District and then as the executive director and principal of two private accredited early childhood centers.
After ten years working as a campus-based classroom teacher, instructional coach and principal, Lora moved into professional development, becoming a program instructor, field supervisor, and lead curriculum developer for Region 13's Principal Certification Program in central Texas. Later, Lora worked at Dell Technologies in Learning & Development, leading a team of designers to create an award-winning global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion training for all 130,000 company employees.
In 2018, Lora received a Peabody Honors Scholarship for doctoral studies at Vanderbilt University, where she now teaches in their online Learning, Leadership and Organizations Doctoral Program.
Following the birth of her son, Lora was inspired to give back to the community by starting an organization committed to lifelong learning and a non-profit focused on early childhood and family well-being, and founded BeWell and BeWell Baby in June 2022.
